Our Mission

Defending the Constitution

Utahns for Representative Government (UFRG) is a Political Issues Committee (PIC) formed to defend Utah’s constitutional order and restore accountability in redistricting.

Our mission is simple: to return the power of drawing Utah’s congressional maps to the Legislature—where the Constitution says it belongs.

Founded by Utah Republican Party Chairman Robert Axson and supported by state and national leaders, UFRG stands united behind one purpose: to preserve representative government and defend the people’s voice from judicial overreach and unaccountable commissions.

The Crisis

An Assault on Representative Government

Utah is facing a direct threat to its constitutional balance.

Outside interests and activist judges have worked to strip the Legislature—Utah’s elected representatives—of their authority to draw congressional districts. This effort began with Proposition 4 (“Better Boundaries”), a measure funded by out-of-state groups seeking to impose their will on Utah voters.

Now, flawed court rulings are attempting to rewrite our state constitution, creating confusion and undermining Utah’s system of representative, accountable government.

If left unchallenged, these actions will allow unelected judges and special interests to determine Utah’s political future.

Our Action

A Direct, Constitutional Response

In response to this unprecedented judicial overreach, Utahns for Representative Government has filed a direct initiative to repeal Proposition 4 and restore constitutional order.

This initiative follows the exact same legal process used by the proponents of Proposition 4—a deliberate step to expose the hypocrisy of those who now oppose the people’s right to act through the initiative process.

UFRG’s coalition includes Chairman Robert Axson, Senator Mike Lee, Attorney General Derek Brown, Former Congressman Rob Bishop, and dozens of grassroots leaders and county officials statewide. Together, we are taking swift and decisive action to protect Utah’s Constitution.

Why We Fight

We fight because the principle of representative government is at the core of who we are as Republicans—and as Utahns.

  • Representative Government: Utah’s maps should be drawn by those who answer to the voters, not activist judges or unelected commissions.
  • The Constitution: The Utah Constitution is clear—the Legislature holds the authority to draw congressional boundaries.
  • Accountability: True representation means decisions about Utah’s future must be made by the people’s elected representatives—not by the courts or outside groups.

We will not stand by as unelected judges and activist interests attempt to rewrite our Constitution.

This is about defending freedom, fairness, and the rule of law.
